Target Group

Anybody interested in gaining employment in the Financial Services field wishing to become a senior bookkeeper/BAS Agent.

Job Role

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of contract bookkeepers and employees performing in the role of bookkeeper for organisations and who perform duties such as:

  • establishing and maintaining accounting systems
  • assisting with Business Activity Statements and other office taxes
  • payroll
  • MYOB.

Legislative Requirement

To become a professional bookkeeper you need to abide by the Part 2 Division 1 of the Tax Agent Services Regulations which states that for a person to register as a BAS Agent, the following requirements must be met:

Accounting qualifications- section 201 requirement is that the individual: 

(a) has been awarded at least a Certificate IV Financial Services (Accounting), or a Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping)

and

(b) has completed a GST/BAS basic course, approved by the board.

Delivery Modes

We are currently only offering Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Recognition of Prior Learning    

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is designed for people who are currently working as a bookkeeper, with relevant skills and experience.

An interview will determine eligibility for the RPL and outline evidence requirements.

Completion of the unit 'FNSBKPG404A - Carry our business activity and instalment activity statement tasks' will satisfy the criteria of a GST/BAS basic course for registration as a BAS Agent.
